So I Started a Cafe…

About six months ago my dad tells me he found a small restaurant for my sister to run. I thought it sounded cool and she would get a kick out of being her own boss. A month or so later he calls me back up to tell me she isn’t going to do it.

After some questions about the location, town, etc I think to myself it might be fun to start a cafe. Fast forward five months, hundreds of man hours of working, painting, slaving, etc and here I sit. Working in my own small restaurant. I have a decent sized kitchen, seven tables (4 booths and three 4 chair tables), regulars who come in weekly to eat my food and a desire to grow this place beyond it’s bounds.

So, my main dishes are Chicken Fried Steak, Hamburger Steak, Chicken Strips, Hamburgers, Brisket sandwich, etc, etc. I make a couple of specials a week, a dessert or two and work 15+ hours a day cooking and cleaning. Did I mention I have been open 7 weeks or so? What a wild ride it has been.

My first month the place earned a profit. It is earning enough to sustain the bills and put some bucks in my pocket. Maybe not as much as I would like to pocket but a profit in the first month is quite the accomplishment. Specially in Putnam Texas with little to no advertising. I will post some pics, thoughts, ideas, etc as I have time. This has been a fast paced project and now that I am collecting myself and reflecting on everything I thought it might be time to get some documentation down as well. So, be back soon with something else to say, some pictures, and just maybe some recipes…
